I love spending my days writing post-apocalyptic survival fiction novels. I enjoy writing in an intimate style with a few but powerful characters. My favorite stories were always about strong relatable characters surviving impossible odds in apocalyptic settings. I also love a fearless canine best friend hero, and I write them into my stories whenever I can. My military time working with these beautiful and highly intelligent animals bonded me to them for life.
Imagine a world twisted and turned upside down by a catastrophic event, removing you from the comforts of your everyday life and plunging you into a world that you no longer recognize; a world in which survival and protecting those you love are all that matter. All the rules are gone, and your strength and moral compass are the only things left to guide you. Who or what will you become? And what about the rest of those left in the world around you? What will they become?
One of my favorite themes comes from characters battling their inner demons. I’m really drawn to stories where these characters confront their fears and emerge transformed, becoming the courageous fighters they always had buried deep down.
Some of my favorite books include The Stand, Alas Babylon, One Second After, The Hobbit, Mountain Man, and Jaws.
Oh, and add in a frosty winter morning in front of a crackling fire with my German Shepherd best friend curled up next to me, and a good spooky story in one hand, and a steaming cup of coffee in the other — that’s my perfect world.
When I’m not writing, you can find me hiking in the mountains with my Shepherd, playing ball or training with him, snow skiing, playing my drums (Yes - I love rock & roll too!), or practicing shooting drills with my various handguns and rifles, or carbines. I’ve recently become quite fascinated with ham radio operations too! I’m also a bit of a gear nut, so you can sometimes find me looking for the next life-saving trinket to add to my go-bag. (Okay, maybe a little more often than sometimes :)
My Best Friend is my German Shepherd, Archie. He is truly my spirit animal.
