"Just like people, only smaller." Rory Miller
Some self-defense instructors are lethal beasts with epic backstories and a physical prowess that is a joy to behold. I am the opposite of that. I am a small and imperfectly-formed bundle of physical deficiencies, emotional scars, and bad ideas wrapped in a hoodie. In the bad old days, a number of physical, social, and psychological factors made me an ideal target for a load of predators and an even bigger load of parasites. That gave me the opportunity to learn about self-defense - both how it works, and what happens when it doesn't. The process wasn't fun, but I did pick up a few things that luckier people don't know about.
A few years back, some folks who should know better suggested that I ought to write down what I know, because learning from my mistakes may save people from having to learn from their own. So, that's what I did. Dear prospective reader, learning about this stuff is no fun at all, particularly if you learn by doing. I truly hope that my books are perfectly useless to you, or at most satisfy your thirst for theoretical knowledge and nothing more. I definitely hope that you will never *need* them. But hey, if you do, they are here.
I also write non-fiction about neurodivergence as Ash Banks (https://www.amazon.com/Ash-Banks/e/B08TMMNPZH), and neuroqueer fiction as Robin Banks (https://www.amazon.com/Robin-Banks/e/B01MU5VWGL).
