Abbey Pachter was born in Chicago, IL, USA. She spent her childhood enjoying nature in the Indiana Dunes east of Gary, Indiana, next to Lake Michigan. She graduated as a fine arts major from the Interlochen Academy for the Arts and earned degrees in professional nursing from the University of Michigan (BSN and MSN) and the University of Pennsylvania (PhD). Her career included clinical practice in nursing and midwifery, project management in healthcare informatics, and faculty and administrative appointments at several universities. She has been an active participant on many community Boards of Directors and writing groups. In addition to her dissertation, Pachter has published several articles in healthcare-related journals including Pulse: Voices from the Heart of Medicine. Her writing is most often based on personal experiences, inspired by nature, and informed by science. Pachter won Golden Nib awards for non-fiction essays in 2021 (1st Prize) and 2023 (2nd Prize) from the Virginia Writers Club. She most recently traveled to Alaska, Italy, Egypt, and Canada. She is the mother of two "amazing daughters and two wonderful sons-in-law,” Gramma to four grandkids she adores, and lives in Virginia Beach, VA.
