A native East Tennessean, Alan Johnson was born in Knoxville and grew up during the turbulent 1960's in the small town of Madisonville, in the foothills of the Tellico mountains. After graduation from High School in 1970, he attended Hiwassee College for one year before transferring to the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where he received his BS in English. After college, Alan began a career in insurance in 1974, working with a large company in Nashville before returning to his hometown to marry his high school sweetheart and start his own independent insurance agency. Alan is an avid student of history and observer of society. From an early age, he has written stories. Beginning as a short story, WHEN FOREVER'S OVER, evolved over a period of ten years and is his first novel. The story, originally written in the dialect he heard growing up in the mountains, has been revised in a 2nd edition of the book, but still preserves the pacing and phrasing of the dialect. His writing reflects his love of the area and the people who live there. Alan's 2nd book, AFTER ALL was released in 2017 and takes the characters from WHEN FOREVER'S OVER, through their last two years of high school. Continuing the conflicts encountered by all teens as they transition from childhood to becoming adults, the group deals with relationships with significant others, with friends, with authority figures and with the unfolding historical events that occur around them. The 3rd book, WAITING FOR YOU was released in January 2018, completing the story of the group of friends that began in WHEN FOREVER'S OVER. Set almost 40 years after the groups graduation from high school, WAITING FOR YOU answers all the questions that were left unresolved from the previous books, and concludes their life's journey. In a tightly woven series of events over a period of seven days, the group confronts their past, deals with loss, and sets the stage for their future. Alan currently works as a risk manager and consultant to several governmental entities, and is active in local community affairs and his church. He and his wife Jan have two sons, and he works hard to be "Dadaw" to their two granddaughters.
