Alex Rowell is the author of "We Are Your Soldiers: How Gamal Abdel Nasser Remade the Arab World" (2023), a New York Times "Editors' Choice" described as "essential reading" by Simon Sebag Montefiore. Rowell's first book, "Vintage Humour: The Islamic Wine Poetry of Abu Nuwas," was named among the best of 2018 by the London Evening Standard. He contributed a chapter to "Tears of Bacchus: A History of Wine in the Arab World."
