Alice Allan has lived and worked all over the world, from Japan to Ethiopia and Uzbekistan. Starting out as an actress, she worked as a lactation consultant before ending up as a writer and public health communications specialist. Her first novel, Open My Eyes, set in an Ethiopian hospital, won the 2018-19 People's Book Prize for Fiction. Her writing for young adults includes Sugar Sugar, which was inspired by her daughter’s experiences with type 1 diabetes. She lives in the UK with her husband, two children, and a large Ethiopian street dog called Frank.
