Allen H. Mesch is the author of one fiction and five non-fiction books. Teacher of Civil War Generals: Major General Charles Ferguson Smith, Soldier and West Point Commandant (July 2015) and Preparing for Disunion: West Point Commandants and the Training of Civil War Leaders (November 2018) both published by McFarland & Company. Teacher of Civil War Generals is available in seventy-four libraries around the world. He has self-published The Analyst - a political thriller, Your Affectionate Father, Charles F. Smith (August 2016) – letters written by Colonel Smith to his daughter Fanny while he was a member of the Tenth Infantry Regiment, Charles A. Martin: “One Year, Six Months, and Eleven Days.” (November 2016) – biography of Charles A. Marvin of the Seventh Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry Regiment. Allen's latest book, Ebenezer Allen - Statesman, Entrepreneur, and Spy is about a little-known Texan who played an integral role in the annexation of Texas to the United States, obtained a charter for one of the earliest railroads in Texas, and was a civilian member of the Confederate Engineer Bureau (September 2020). Allen published a political thriller, The Third Rebellion, based on the political events surrounding the 2020 presidential election and the rising incidence of crimes and legislations targeting minorities. Allen Mesch is a native of Buffalo, NY, or as folks in Texas would say a “Yankee.” Following graduation from Kenmore East Senior High School, he headed to the north country to study engineering in Potsdam, NY. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Clarkson University and a master’s degree from MIT. Allen’s business career has focused on the oil and gas industry. He held technical and management positions in engineering, economics, and planning with major multinational petroleum companies including Gulf Oil Corporation, Conoco, and Sun Oil Company. He is Founder and President of PetroStrategies, Inc., a consulting and training organization specializing in the international oil and gas industry. In addition to Allen’s business experience, he has held academic positions at the University of Texas at Dallas, Southern Methodist University, and Texas Woman’s University. Allen has published papers on trends in the oil and gas industry and innovations in business planning and spoken at numerous professional conferences. Allen has made presentations to Civil War groups around the country. He taught continuing education classes in Collin College’s SAIL program. He is a Civil War historian and manages a web site, Civil War Journeys, that contains over 4,000 battlefield photographs. Allen also manages the Civil War Blog Salient Points.
