Andy Becker is an award winning writer, gardener, and lifetime learner
living in Gig Harbor with his wife and their two dogs, Nova and
Splash.
Andy’s first book, The Spiritual Gardener: Insights From the Jewish
Tradition To Help Your Garden Grow, draws on spiritual themes to
inspire gardening and well-being. The Spiritual Gardener won the New
York City Big Book Award in the Home and Garden category.
Andy’s second book, Cracking an Egg, is a humorous and heartfelt look
at early childhood experiences growing up in the 1950s and 60s.
The Spiritual Forest: Timeless Jewish Wisdom for a Healthier Planet
and a Richer Spiritual Life is Andy's fourth book and second in his
Spiritual Garden series. The Spiritual Forest promotes planting trees
and a love of the environment. The Spiritual Forest won three finalist
awards in the categories of Spirituality from the Next Generation Book
Awards, in two categories, Nature, and Mind, Body, Spirit, from the
17th Annual National Indie Excellence Awards, and in the category of
Spirituality: Inspiration from the Bestbookfest.
Andy was a founding congregant who helped build a very welcoming and
friendly Tacoma synagogue in 2012. A scandal there in 2018 inspired
Andy's first novel, The Kissing Rabbi: Lust, Betrayal, and a Community
Turned Inside Out, published in 2021. The Kissing Rabbi won a First
Place Blue Ribbon at the CIBA 2021 Mark Twain Book Awards for Humor
and Satire.
