"B. Ulena is the pen name for Nancy Buscher. After writing books for children for over 20 years I thought I'd try my hand at writing a novel. I never thought I could because they are so long, but it occurred to me that it would be like writing a series of connected plays. I grew up in Indiana, but my family vacationed in Florida many times. I remember sitting in a movie theater some four rows behind a group of kids about my age. I thought they were so lucky to live year-round in Florida. I had the opportunity to move here a few years ago and I love it. The Keyhole Mysteries are about love and loss, the endurance of the spirit, and karmic justice. The books focus on 5 individuals who must deal with control and find the key to their futures. It will take them to the brink of death and change their lives forever. They take place around Venice and Osprey, just south of Sarasota, Florida. Most of the characters are fictional, but a few are actual people. Some of the businesses are fictional and some are real places. A reader told me, it’s like a treasure hunt driving around searching to find what places are real and what are not. Book 1 came out in 2020. I decided to write another using the same characters - well, the ones that survived, that is. Then in 2021, 'Witness 5' took a GOLD in the Royal Palm Literary Competition in Florida. Whoo-hoo! Synopses: Book 1 of the Keyhole Mysteries: 'Witness 5' is a modern-day murder/mystery about 5 characters who struggle with control; some must learn it and some must relinquish it. Their lives are affected by telepathy and the black arts, greed, and secrets. Each must resolve their issue or be destroyed by it. Book 2: 'Justice for All' - In 2009, in a quiet community on Florida's Gulf Coast children were disappearing without a trace. No evidence was found. No one came forward. They became cold cases. In 2022, children are disappearing again. However, clues are coming from the least likely sources. Book 3: ‘Reap What You Sow’ – in 2024 a fire and murder have the investigators baffled and bring Boatman to his knees. Autumn reveals a secret that has plagued her for years, and a surprise character from a previous book reappears. Meet a few of the characters: Autumn Mariiweather is the gentle-hearted wealthy widow of Richard Mariiweather, whose loss incapacitated her for several years before meeting Mrs. Wilburn. She seldom speaks of his untimely death but experiences dreams and bouts of depression. She wants to be a stronger person, but the problems of others keep her on the verge of a relapse. Mrs. Wilburn’s investment broker absconded with her saving, caring for sick relatives took the rest of her money, and she became destitute. They met at a bookstore one day and became friends. Autumn took an instant liking to her and in time invited her to live with her. Mrs. W. repays her by taking on the role of housekeeper and they have developed a strong bond. Boatman came from a very affluent Tampa family, but he disliked their materialistic lifestyle so, he went to the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill. He got a degree in business and a non-degree in the occult, where he discovered he has intuitive powers. Simka, his college roommate died in Trinidad, and ‘B’man, shaken, returned to Venice. He worked for Nate Smallwood selling boats and supplies, and quit to start a charter boat fishing business with Don MacKenzie. Boatman has visions and dreams that make no sense until they actually happen. He hates this gift that is so frustrating. I hope you will read these books and let me know your thoughts... buscher511@gmail.
