Although The Alaskan is my first novel and Big Blue and other Poems about the People and Animals of Alaska is my first book, I have been writing professionally for most of my life. But what I was writing, mostly, was radio and TV commercials. I worked in radio, television and advertising, starting as a radio DJ in 1971 in Fairbanks, Alaska. I began anchoring TV news in 1978 and started an ad agency and TV production company in 1984--which I operated until 2006 (while continuing to moonlight as a TV news anchor) when my wife Susan and I moved to Arizona. We have three grown children and six grandchildren. Now retired, I spend most of my spare time narrating audio books; I have completed thirty four of them which are available on Audible.com. I also do occasional voice over work and recently rediscovered a passion for pen and ink drawing, having used that talent to illustrate my book of Alaska poems. Just this summer we moved from Arizona to Nevada to be near our son, who lives in Reno with his wife, four year-old son and six month old daughter, our youngest grandchild. Publishing The Alaskan and Big Blue has motivated me to write more; I am well into my second novel which I hope to complete in the very near future.
