My wife Janet and I moved to San Diego, California from Blue Springs, Missouri in 2016. I have taught history courses at Johnson County Community College, Columbia College and at several other colleges in the Kansas City metropolitan area. I received the Lieberman Teaching Excellence Award at JCCC. Before settling in the Kansas City area, Janet and I taught in high schools in Victoria, Australia. I taught English, history, and government courses as well as editing school newspapers and coaching “A Grade” basketball teams. However, my main extra-curricular activities involved public speaking, debating, and theater. I coached public speakers and debating teams to several Victorian state and Australian national titles. I also wrote and directed school plays, and I had the privilege of playing Chief Bromden in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest with the Redcliffe’s Players at the Australian National Theatre in Melbourne, Vic. I lived in seven states and attended twenty schools growing up. Besides teaching at high schools and colleges, I’ve been a truck driver, a dockworker, a house painter, a fitness instructor, and a community organizer. It’s great to meet people from different walks of life and to learn new things. Janet and I love to travel. We’ve backpacked and traveled independently throughout much of the world. We’ve visited all 50 U.S. states, and we’ve roamed around Australia, Mexico, Canada, Europe, New Zealand, South Pacific and Caribbean Islands, Southeast Asia, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Kenya, and Egypt. There’s nothing we enjoy more than planning that next trip! My stage plays, Broken Strings, Collisions, Death and the Publican, Caldwell's Bomb, Breaking the Trust, and Dangerous to Dance With have all been produced. I've also written Irish Joe and the Dutchman, a radio play for Kansas City Actors' Theatre, and a full-length musical, Wild and Willful Women with Kansas City musician and composer, Daniel Doss. Mango Black is my first novel. I’m a Lifetime Member of the Dramatists Guild of America, the professional association of American playwrights, composers, and lyricists.
