Bobbe Tyler was already looking for the meaning of her life when she was 16. She read and she wrote whenever there was time to steal from her other responsibilities: three children, two marriages, and a long career. She read to learn and she wrote to think, and in that way she found the answers that took away her pain and said her life was meaningful indeed. Then she wrote her first book ever: Searching for Soul: a Survivor's Guide, and it was published almost immediately by Ohio University Press, 2009. It's a memoir in essays that speaks to the author's story about "coming awake" finding her self and her soul and the very precious meaning of every life. She says her readers can have it, too. Searching for Soul: a Survivor's Guide received two Eric Hoffer Book Awards—for content and design—in 2010.
