There is a historic treasure at the center of the tiny town of Belleair, Florida. It’s the Belleview Biltmore Resort, which was built in 1896 and is believed by many to be haunted. A few years ago, I was inspired to write paranormal romance novels about hotel guests who interact with spirits residing there. I hoped my stories would entertain readers, while at the same time, honor this wonderful hotel.
In 2009, the Belleview Biltmore Resort was closed and gutted, in preparation for a complete renovation. It was scheduled to reopen in 2012, but when the real estate market collapsed, the owners defaulted on their mortgage and the property was sold in lieu of foreclosure. Developers who purchased the property in 2011 are now hoping to demolish the 820,000 square foot hotel and build 80 new town homes in its place. Along with preservationists and worldwide fans of the hotel, I want to save the Belleview Biltmore from demolition by finding an investor or group of investors to purchase and renovate the resort.
I’m hoping my first novel, “Pearls: Spirits of the Belleview Biltmore” will draw much needed attention to the historic hotel’s plight and reach the ears of someone who has the funds and vision necessary to restore the property to its former status as one of the most fabulous historic destination resorts in America.
