Caro Ayre - Biography
A childhood in Africa, followed by a move to a derelict house in Somerset, has provided me with a wide range of experiences. I currently run a Bed and Breakfast, and when the family and house maintenance are not demanding my attention, I spend time gardening, sometimes painting, but mostly writing.
Writing satisfies my inquiring mind. I am always happy when I am learning something new. It does make me explore some interesting topics that end up being written about. Life would be much easier if my curiosity didn’t lead me to embark on such varied genres.
So far I have four published books. They are all very different from each other, though they all have a romantic thread running through them.
Feast of the Antlion. This is an action packed adventure set in Africa. Plane crashes, poachers, armed attackers, are things my main character has to face to protect her step-children and the wildlife sanctuary she now controls.
A sequel to this story is planned.
The Mallaig Link is a crime novel. Corruption within DI McKay’s department leads him to subterfuge to continue investigating a mysterious house in Mallaig. Finding the identity of a girl with amnesia brings him more confusing links than he expected. Romance is blossoming between the girl and her rescuer, but it also brings McKay back in touch with someone from his past.
Breathless is the story of a mother’s fight to keep her family communicating. Her daughter Hannah has Cystic Fibrosis and needs a lot of support. Her husband is in denial about her daughter having the disease. Her son is struggling with guilt because the genetic lottery spared him. The financial support of an old flame adds tension to an already difficult situation, but Clare has to take it in order to provide for her children even if it makes matters even more complicated.
A donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust is given for every copy sold. I am planning a sequel to this book to tell Hannah’s story as she grows older, and how the disease continues to present her with life-threatening challenges.
Never too Late is a story about friendship. Fiona values her friendship with Sally so much she is prepared to sacrifice her own happiness to protect it. The question is can she live with the lies, or will they just lead to more lies and hurt other people?
