Carol Sletten discovered her true calling when she moved into a rustic cabin in Arizona's White Mountains and was befriended by her Apache neighbors. Since their astonishing and deeply moving stories made her eager to know more, she spent the next two decades digging into historical resources and collecting oral histories from both Native and non-Native sources. The result was the publication of her award winning, "Story of the American West - Legends of Arizona" and "Three Strong Western Women," a book based on Sletten's popular play by the same name. Early in Sletten's career, she worked as a reporter, teacher and gallery owner, as well as a copywriter/designer for an ad agency and a writer/illustrator for a university information center. Recently, she collaborated with her husband, Eric Kramer, on an ebook called "New York Freedom Trail." It's based on Revolutionary War research that the couple did while they were living and working on the East Coast. Carol Sletten is currently working on "Apache Jesus," a novel about a powerful historical Apache religious leader. There are two photos of the author on this page, one taken at Monument Valley. The other images are from the covers of "Story of the American West" and "Three Strong Western Women." Carol Sletten painted those portraits.
