I don't think I fully appreciated what a rich and full life I have had until I began writing "ADVENTURES FROM THE EDGE". It has been so much fun reliving each chapter as I wrote them. To have experienced all these adventures after leading a perfectly normal middle class existence for the first half of my life is truly amazing. I got married the summer after my Junior year in college and had my first child the night before graduation. My daughter, Karen, was born two years later. 28 years of teaching were punctuated by becoming a finalist for Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year and being awarded the George Washington Freedom Foundation medal at Valley Forge for excellence in Economic Education. My high school also honored me by becoming a member of its' Hall of Fame. These events and a divorce were contributing factors in leading me to Guatemala where the adventures began. The quintessential wife and mother morphed quickly into a world traveler and adventurer living life to the fullest. My retirement years were an extension of the role I cherished the most - being a mother. I threw myself into the new role of Grandmother, which I was fortunate enough to enjoy for the next 20 years. My daughter and grandsons remain the lights of my life and my husband and I enjoy being a part of their lives. I think everyone should write their personal story in order for those who come after us will be able to see you, not just as the funny old lady, "Auntie Carol" or as the elderly relative who likes to carve, called "Uncle Bob", but as the young and vital people we were throughout our lives and still are inside!
