Born on Vandenberg Air Force Base to a military family, with roots in rural Kentucky, Chris White earned a BA in theatre at the University of Colorado in Boulder then worked variously as an actor, singer, playwright and screenwriter, eventually earning an MFA in dramatic writing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. In 2002, Chris White began teaching at DePauw University, where she's currently a Professor of English teaching creative writing. She lives with her family on Big Walnut Creek near the town of Bainbridge, Indiana. The Life List of Adrian Mandrick is her first novel. Chris White's plays have been produced nationally and internationally, including Rhythms, which won the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding New Play; Two-Character Play, the dramatic centerpiece of Allyn & Bacon’s digital textbook, Explore Theatre: A Backstage Pass; and her short play, Thespian, anthologized in Smith & Krauss’ Best Ten-Minute Plays of 2011. Her screenplay Weasel in the Icebox won an Award of Merit at the 2014 Women’s Independent Film Festival in LA, and her short film Mud Lotus was an official selection for the New Hampshire (premier, 2013), Albany, Copper Mountain, and Cincinnati Film Festivals. She also recorded albums as co-founder of musical group Flesh and Bone (Skeleton Woman and Pagan Saints) as vocalist/composer, as well as numerous other albums in new age, world, and contemporary jazz genres.
