Dara Molloy lives on the Aran Islands, off Galway, in Ireland. He went there as a hermit in 1985. Dara has been on a conscious spiritual path since he was 12 years old. It took him into the Catholic priesthood, to Aran as a hermit, and then to being an independent, freelance Celtic priest, monk and druid.
Dara is married to Tess Harper-Molloy who is also an author. Tess has been a student of Jungian psychology all her life. She has applied that knowledge to good effect while living in an open house with Dara for over 20 years. Her book 'Jung at Heart: Tools for Psychological Hygiene' is a handbook of all she has learned. Available on Amazon.
Tess and Dara have four children Tuán, Macha, Surnaí and Anú. All four children have become, of their own choice, creative musicians, writers and performers. For the most part, the children grew up outside of schooling.
Dara's passion is the Celtic heritage and Celtic spirituality. He finds inspiration in the myths, legends and rituals of the ancient Celts. The spiritual sites and monuments on Aran and throughout Ireland are his stomping ground. His passion includes the spirituality and practices found in Celtic monasticism. This is the form of Christianity that developed in Ireland from the 4th century, independently of Rome.
Inspirational heroes from history in Dara's life include: John the Baptist, Jesus, Martin of Tours, Colmcille (Columba), Columbanus, Brigit of Kildare and Daniel O'Connell. Modern day heroes and influences (also personal friends) include Ivan Illich, John O Donohue and Michael D. Higgins.
