While blogging and books are at the forefront of my life at present, I didn't plan to be an author. Sure, I've been writing for years--everything from songs as a young girl (wish I had kept all those lyrics!), short stories, and even a soap opera or two in high school. The creativity piped down during my now 13+ year-career in technical writing where I write and collaborate on several software manuals each year. Revisiting my 20-year journal collection in 2008 prompted my first two books, and thus, along with creating my independent publishing house, I reinvented myself as an "authorprenuer." My speaking talents were developed back in the day from acting in plays at church and in college, as well as being an emcee for various community events. I've taught discipleship classes at local churches and presented business and professional development topics at meetings, conferences, schools, and universities across the country. Working from home since 2005, I became a fiercely active Toastmaster (2008-2012) to practice my speeches, meet other adults in a structured environment, and flex my leadership skills and "sometimey"-extroverted nature. I am the host of a weekly podcast called "Kickin' it with Daree" that focuses on personal development and life coaching for women. I also had a small business making cheesecakes (any flavor you can think of) in recent years, but now reserve that for special occasions and requests. When I'm not making cheesecakes, interviewing folks, reading magazines, traveling, writing, jumping into a line dance, or being social with social media, I'm asleep.
