Darla was raised in a small town in Oregon. She grew up reading books through the night, always wanting to finish the story before she could sleep. She was not, and still is not a morning person. Her dream, as an adolescent, was to write fiction, but as she grew up, she realized she had many interests in other arts.
At twenty-two she found herself stranded in Florence, Italy (albeit staying in the home of good friends), and there she met master painter and sculptor, Maestro Alfio Rapisardi. She stayed in Florence for four years, as an apprentice in the artist’s studio. She learned to paint.
When she returned to the U.S. she met her soon to be husband—a man of many talents, one of which was photography—who, conveniently, lived across the hall in their historic brownstone apartment building in Portland, Oregon. They soon had two children and decided to say goodbye to city life. Darla’s talents were focused on raising the children, but when she was diagnosed with a chronic illness, life changed for the entire family. Writing stories while in bed or on the sofa became her refuge, and finally, after years of trial and error, she created a world and characters that were worthy of sharing with others.
Darla, coming full circle, now lives in a small town, in Oregon, with her husband, their college age son and their newest dog, a Dutch shepherd named Fizz. She has begun working her way back to painting and dreams of combining her artwork with her novels.
