Read — Explore — Write — Read — Explore — Write — Read... This is what I tell myself if ever I get stuck. Like most things, writing is a skill, and that skill needs to be honed. I also remember what one of my lecturers said to me... David, all ideas are good ideas, but it's what you do with that idea that counts.
Wow, that was a tad philosophical for a Thursday evening, but that's the mood I'm in. I'm even going to fetch myself another cuppa in a minute, and I don't care that it's 11:49pm and I have to be up early for the school run. Nope. That's me... a party animal!
But I suppose I should tell you about myself: I was born and raised in Hackney, London, and my parents dragged me over to the Isle of Wight with them when I was 16 years old. I'm still here (after a spell back in the Smoke) and I'm loving life. I live with my son, Ronald, who's 7 years old, and I sometimes wonder if he's missing out by not experiencing city life like I did growing up... but then I think nah! I also have a 16 year old daughter who is now fully grown and knows everything about the world, so doesn't need her old man anymore (I really should try a less sarcastic tone, but I'm too old to change now, right?)
I went back to my studies aged 31 and haven't looked back. I'm reading English at Southampton Solent University with a view to teach. I'm a huge fan of literary greats such as Oscar Wilde, DH Lawrence, Charles Dickens, Roddy Doyle and, of course, George Orwell.
I'm also really into my short stories at the moment, and have found a love for Roald Dahl's collection of adult short stories, and also Guy de Maupassant. My favourite short story has to be The Necklace by Maupassant.
I like football and dislike liver.
So, now that I've spent my time giving you the ins and outs of my life, how about you buy my debut novel, The Big 'C', and then post a lovely review saying how wonderful it is.
Pip-pip!
