David worked first as a social worker before he began working as a clinical counsellor. As a counsellor he spent over 10,000 hours treating those with chemical addictions and their families. In 2002, along with Jay Efran, professor emeritus at Temple university, and past president of the Pennsylvania Psychological Association, David wrote the celebrated book, the “Tao of Sobriety”. The introduction was written by Alan Marlatt, a close friend of David’s now deceased, one of the great psychologists of the 20th century. David retired from his practice in 2019 to dedicate to his writing full-time. David's latest book is Life is Nobody’s Fault: Bringing Compassion into the 21st Century. Life is Nobody’s Fault is, in large part, a tribute to all that David has learned over his long career as a clinical counsellor specializing in addictions and recovery.
