As a professional electrical engineer I was involved with the design, construction and commissioning of control systems for many processes, mainly power stations. This occupation took me round the world several times.
I couldn't imagine a more rewarding or exciting job, or one that let me mix with such a wide range of fascinating people.
The three Dan Foster novels are intended to give my readers some insight into that type of work. Dan is a brilliant engineer who is reluctantly drawn into investigating disasters. (I must stress that he is NOT me!) Through his exploits I try to build a picture of the world I inhabit, so that people get a clearer picture of engineers and engineering.
I was born in the beautiful hill station of Nainital, in the foothills of the Himalayas, and came to England when I was 11 years old. I believe that the travel gene that took my grandfather and father to the Far East has influenced the course of my life. I also believe that my interest in engineering can be traced back to my Great Grandfather who worked with Brunel on the construction of the railways in England.
I feel I will have attained a great personal objective if my books make people more aware of an activity that is so important to modern living. It would be particularly satisfying if my tales encourage young people to become engineers.
