I have an MFA from the New School and am the author of the novels Tell Me How This Ends Well (Hogarth Books, Crown Publishing, 2017) and Antonia Lively Breaks the Silence (Algonquin Books, 2013) and a collection of stories, Most of Us Are Here Against Our Will (Viking Penguin, 2003). I've received residencies and awards from VCCA, Yaddo, the Jentel Foundation, ArtOmi, the Santa Fe Arts Institute, the Sewanee Writers' Conference, and the Marguerite & Lamar Smith Fellowship for Writers through CSU and the Carson McCullers House in Columbus, GA. I was first runner-up in The Flannery O'Connor Story Prize and placed third in The Atlantic Monthly's fiction competition, chosen by Mary Gaitskill. My stories and poetry have appeared in storySouth, The Brooklyn Review, Prairie Schooner, The Toronto Quarterly, West Branch, Post Road, and the Adirondack Review, among others. I was the Emerging Writer Lecturer at Gettysburg College, Writer-in-Residence at Texas A&M, and the Fiction Fellow at Emory University. I have taught at NYU, Emory University, Gettysburg College, and George Washington University. I'm also a member of the Texas Institute of Letters and a co-founder of The Big Texas Author Talk, a literary arts organization and virtual lecture series serving Texas authors with a reach toward national exposure.
