David Stoeckl presently lives in Sequim, WA, USA with his wife, Amy. Born in Southern California, but grew up in Ogden, Utah, he's a graduate of St. Joseph High School and Weber State University, both in Ogden. The oldest of seven children, this author of primarily Christian prose found his love of writing at an early age.
"I first tried writing a book by hand when I was in 8th grade. It was based on the Beatles, using a blue, cloth covered, 3-ring binder with STP stickers all over the cover."
His first book, Ten Cars, composed in 1981, has been laid to its final resting place in a file folder in a drawer in his office. More books came forth thereafter. Patmos is Big Dave's 14th major composition.
Presently, he's working on two more Biblical, historical novels - Apostolics, (a sequel to Patmos), and After Eden, the story of the first millennium of humankind as seen through Adam and Eve's eyes.
"Adam lived for 930 years. The Bible gives us bare glimpses of what developments and inventions were designed during that period. Adam died just 80 short years before Noah was born, so was the patriarch for 8 or 9 generations. I thought it would be an extraordinary book to try to imagine how they lived after being expelled from Eden.
"I never thought I would compose any historical works, but after the rewarding experience and blessings when composing Patmos, I will continue down that avenue."
Many of his earlier works are also being re-worked.
"Quite some years back, I read that Ernest Hemingway continued to re-edit his books, even after they were published. The world of online publishing allows authors much more flexibility to do the same. I am presently re-working some of my other books for re-release in the next few months."
Big Dave and Amy attend the Sequim Valley Church of the Nazarene in Carlsborg, WA. A long time acoustic guitar player, Amy and Dave presently head the worship music. He is also a member of the Olympic Peninsula Christian Writers and has been a guest speaker at their conferences. He also participates in a weekly writers group in Sequim, plus participates in other writing ventures throughout the Olympic Peninsula.
