Deborah L. Jacobs is a lawyer and award-winning journalist with a broad range, from service-oriented columns about legal matters to quirky features about far-flung destinations. Her articles, for The New York Times, Bloomberg Wealth Manager, BusinessWeek and many other publications, have been widely cited and circulated. Readers appreciate her clear, concise explanations of complex subjects and her ability to combine real-life stories with reassuring, practical advice. A former senior editor at Forbes, where she wrote for the “Money & Investing” section of Forbes magazine and was a key contributor to its bi-annual Investment Guide, Jacobs also launched a popular personal finance blog on Forbes.com. She is a dynamic speaker and has been interviewed as an expert on financial strategies by reporters from many different media outlets, including The New York Times, Bloomberg News, Reuters, U.S. News & World Report, MarketWatch and CBS TV.
Her book, Estate Planning Smarts, now in the fourth edition, has become a go-to guide about a stressful subject that affects everyone. To keep readers current between editions, Jacobs issues updates that can be downloaded from her book's Web site www.estateplanningsmarts.com, tweets at http://twitter.com/djworking and posts on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/djworking/
Her latest book, Four Seasons in a Day, also confronts mortality but with a different twist. It chronicles her misadventures after she decided that life is too short, quit an oppressive editorial job and planned to Airbnb her way through France with her husband. The book is a memoir about their escapades; a story of career reinvention; and a candid assessment of the homesharing economy.
After a three-year hiatus from blogging, in August 2017 Jacobs relaunched her blog, this time on her author's website, https://deborahjacobs.com. You can go to the site to subscribe, either by RSS feed, or e-mail notification.
Readers can message Jacobs through her Facebook author's page, https://www.facebook.com/djworking/
Jacobs has been a syndicated newspaper columnist, newsletter editor and entrepreneur - she has had her own company, producing a variety of written products on legal and financial matters, for most of her career. Her first book was Small Business Legal Smarts (Bloomberg Press), geared to business owners.
A native of New York and a graduate of Barnard College, Jacobs received her J.D. degree from Columbia Law School and her M.S. from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She now divides her time between New York City and France.
