Domnica Radulescu escaped her native Romania during the dictatorship of Nicolae Ceausescu and settled in the United States in 1983. She left her country with a small suitcase carrying all her belongings and a big dream of becoming a writer. She is the author of the internationally acclaimed novel Train to Trieste, translated into 13 languages and winner of the 2009 Library of Virginia Best Fiction Award, the novel Black Sea Twilight, a 2011 best seller in the UK, and the recent and critically acclaimed novel Country of Red Azaleas. She is a Fulbright scholar, an award winning playwright and the winner of the 2011 Outstandung Faculty Award from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
