"Joan Ulloth’s life has been immersed in humor. Her grandfather was well-known for his many funny stories and riddles. Her parents “Rusty” (mom) and “Choo-Choo”(dad) were active in a clown club when they retired. Occasionally she joined them on social outings as "Noel, The Christmas elf". Her young nephew drew her in full costume complete with curly “elf feet”. Joan uses humor as a powerful teaching tool in her role as a nursing professor. Her doctoral dissertation studied humor as an instructional strategy. She presented the results wearing her clown costume to a doctoral symposium. She has published several professional journal articles and textbook chapters about teaching with humor. When not teaching nursing, Joan rings and directs handbells, knits, hikes, and trains her toy poodles in agility."
