Dr. Roneisa Matero is a bestselling author, veteran, nationally certified family nurse practitioner, grief expert, certified health and wellness coach as well as a certified life coach, with over 28 years of experience in helping and serving others. Roneisa joined the USAF in August 1990 just after graduating from high school. She spent 5 years as an EMT- flight medic serving her country. During that time, she was deployed to England, Italy, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War before she took an early discharge in May 1995 to take care of her family and further her education as a registered nurse. Roneisa received her Bachelorette degree as a registered nurse in 1997 from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences before having her second child a month later and moving to North Carolina.
She returned to college in September 1998 to pursue her master’s degree in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Duke University and graduated with honors in May of 2000. In May 2014, she again returned to college to pursue her doctoral degree in nursing and graduated with honors from Maryville University and earning her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in May 2016.
Roneisa has been widowed since August 7, 2002, and has immersed herself in raising her children and dealing with the loss of her husband and father to her children. She lost her husband, a Combat Controller in the Air Force, in a plane crash along with 9 other United States Air Force service members.
Roneisa has been in the medical field and helping people for the past 28 years. First as a flight medic in the USAF, then as a registered nurse and a family nurse practitioner. Her career gave her the means to go on and support and raise her children. During her journey through grief, she realized she wanted to help other widows with children survive the crippling effects of grief while learning to live again and move forward in a positive way.
Roneisa has helped hundreds of people throughout the years to deal with various aspects of the grief process and the trials and tribulations associated with grieving the loss of a spouse. She has lived and experienced the grief and pain that comes with losing a spouse and being left alone to raise the children. After her youngest child Dante got married and left home in 2016, she decided to give in to her long-time desire to write a book that would help widows with children cope with the grief and loss. She was inspired to write a book that she wished she had had all those years ago when her life suddenly was turned upside down and she was left to raise her two small children alone.
Roneisa lives in a small town in East Texas close to her children and grandchildren. She enjoys taking long walks along a beautiful beach or in the mountains to connect with nature, writing, but most of all she loves spending quality time with her family and helping others any way she can.
