His Excellency Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, author of the Amazon bestseller Our Common Faith and A Dream For Peace ,an Ambassador's memoir, was born on May 29, 1938 in Ain Beïda, a small town situated at the foot of the Aurès mountains in eastern Algeria. After completing high school he traveled to France to study medicine in Bordeaux. In 1956 he fled from France to join the Algerian revolution. In 1959 he was enrolled at Indiana University and in the summer of the year 1961 he achieved a major breakthrough in medical science. As soon as he concluded his PHD in Microbiology in 1963, he was offered a faculty position as professor of Virology at the Yale University School of Medicine. After a coulpe of years he resigned from his tenure at Yale on a quest for peace around the world. From 1966 to 1993 he served as Special Advisor to President Houphouët Boigny of Côte d’Ivoire and was appointed Emissary and Ambassador as well.The highlight of his diplomatic involvement for peace was his hard work on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and his belief that dialogue should prevailed between Israeli and Palestinian and between Israel and his Arab Neighbors.He was able to organize in 1976 the first meeting between The ICIPP of General Peled and the PLO of Yasser Arafat. He ended his diplomatic carrier in 1993 and moved back to the United States. He settled in Denver, Colorado and later relocated to Florida. He passed away peacefully on Friday March 4th. 2011 in his Florida home.As a true testament of his life, family and friends from all faiths attended his funeral including Muslim, Christian and Jewish.
