For my first book, I had no choice. A distant relation of mine had led the Trail of Tears, the horrendous forced march of thousands of native people driven off their own land into the western wilderness by the U.S government. I felt I had to make amends in the only way I knew how--to write BURIED SMOKE. It became a labor of love. In my opinion it was time to write another type of United States history and take a more digestible look at truth. I decided to combine myth and mystery with factual history, thus devoting myself to--as Joseph Campbell would say--my "bliss." The genesis of that book was merely a short story, but it grew over the years and was published in July of 2020, the pandemic summer. In May of 2021, I put out my second book, Burying Smoke, which is a companion to BURIED SMOKE. Burying Smoke is a very different read and opens up American history in yet another light--through the lens of music and entertainment. It expands upon and enriches the story begun in the first book. My third book was published in August 2021 as a short novel. Entitled A Murder Can Really Change Your Life, the story is indeed based on an unfathomable murder, but focuses more on the aftermath that just about destroys a family and illustrates the power of the mind. After that, it just may be that a short story collection will come into being. I ask myself--do readers want more short story books? Well, who knows, I might not have a choice there, either!
