E. Thomalen - I am playwright and have had work produced in the US and other countries. Plays offer an audience a chance to identify with some characters in other times and circumstances. The Greeks understood that very well, and made theater part of their religious festivals because it can offer an observer a chance to see how various moral choices might play out not in a general way, but in a very specific context. That is humanizing and our lives are about such choices.
