Meet Eve Mason
Eve is a mother, active volunteer, and a strong advocate of mental health care because she has seen firsthand what poor mental health can do to anyone.
Eve had a lonely childhood spent in the care of several foster homes after losing her parents to a car accident at three. She was taught not to show any weakness and she grew up with a fear of seeking help in any form. As a teenager, she was mostly sad, depressed, and socially withdrawn. Hence, she could not keep any real relationship or maintain healthy friendships.
40% of people with diminishing mental health do not seek help, but at the age of 29, Eve started to feel the need to step out of the darkness. Her life until that point had been one big ball of emotional pain, self-doubt, and emotional instability. Of course, she didn’t know how to or what to do, and she definitely couldn’t do it alone. So, she started seeing a therapist.
At first, she hated the idea of having to open up to a second party but with time, she started looking forward to her sessions. By the end of the first ten sessions, she had started to laugh more, saw events in her life in a more positive light, and had the courage to meet new people. She also loved herself more, felt less irritable and most importantly, she had improved self-esteem.
Eve spent the first few years of her recovery devouring lots of books on mental health. As a result, she grew well-informed about mental health dysfunction, and became a critical part of the support system for her loved ones. She had helpful tips for her friends and colleagues who opened to her, and she eventually decided to spread the gospel of great mental health through her books.
She emphasizes the importance of mental health, self-care, positive psychology, and self-love in finding happiness. Her first attempt at writing was a 12-week DBT workbook that helps develop tools to stop overthinking, improve interpersonal relations, and teaches positive psychology and emotional regulation.
Her other books have talked about many other topics including,
Overcoming fear and trauma,
Healing from emotional abuse,
How to break the chains of overthinking
Development of emotional intelligence
Repairing battered emotions
Eve has made it her life’s mission to help people with mental health issues come out of their shell and receive the help they require. She says “Too many people pay attention to their body and neglect their mind. This is a big mistake because the mind controls the body.” Through her books, she hopes to help many people pay more attention to their mental health.
