Dr. Evelyn McKnight is one of ninety-nine cancer survivors who contracted hepatitis C through reuse of syringes during chemotherapy at the Fremont, Nebraska Cancer Center in 2000-2002. She is one of the founders of Hepatitis Outbreaks' National Organization for Reform (www.HONOReform.org). She was instrumental in the development and securing of funds for the One and Only Campaign, which HONOReform co-convened with the CDC Foundation. Evelyn has been featured on a number of national news outlets including CBS News, CNN, USA Today, the Wall Street Journal and Newsday and is a renowned patient safety advocate and speaker. Evelyn is also a co-author of "A Never Event: Exposing the Largest Outbreak of Hepatitis C in American Healthcare History", which chronicles the story of the Nebraska hepatitis C outbreak. Recently she contributed a chapter to "The Truth about Big Medicine: Righting the Wrongs for Better Health Care", edited by Cheryl L. Brown and John T. James. Evelyn says, "I am delighted to be a chapter author of this book, since the chapters are written by people who have experienced medical error and, from that experience, are working to improve some of the failings of our health system. I am honored to be part of this group of altruistic individuals."
