After a career as a physicist, Fred Kuttner moved to North Carolina to be near his two-year old grandson and to pursue another career as a mental health counselor, following a road not taken when he was younger. During his physics career, Fred devoted most of his time to teaching physics after time spent in industry which included two technology startups, and working in academic administration. His research interests have included the low temperature properties of solids and the thermal properties of magnets. For the last several years as a physicist he worked on the foundations of quantum mechanics. Along with counseling, he is now contemplating the implications of quantum mechanics for life, death, consciousness, and the universe.
