GARRIC BAKER, AIA is a graduate of Kansas State University’s College of Architecture Planning and Design where he earned a master’s degree in architecture. Following his graduation, he began his professional career at the firm Bruce McMillan AIA Architects, P.A. with offices in Manhattan and Junction City, Kansas in the summer of June 2013. Over the years, he attended educational leadership classes such as Leadership Manhattan and the Flint Hills Leadership course – both of which are crafted to educate the region’s leaders on community businesses, local opportunities, and philanthropic efforts. From this new interest in community involvement, he found an opportunity to help reestablish the Young Professionals of Junction City, was one of the founding members of the Wamego Young Professionals, as well as the rebranding of Manhattan’s Young Professionals into HYPE – Helping Young Professionals Emerge. After five years working for McMillan Architects, he became a licensed architect in the State of Kansas in 2019, and a licensed architect in Missouri in 2020. Following his initial licensing, he became a shareholder within the firm to begin transitioning to an ownership role. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Manhattan Arts Center, as the President, Vice-President, and Secretary roles under the Kansas Barn Alliance, President of the Flint Hills section of the American Institute of Architects, Board of Directors at the chapter level for the State of Kansas American Institute of Architects, and held positions on the Central States Emerging Professionals. He regularly visits his alma matter to perform portfolio and resume reviews, as a guest critic for presentations, as well as a guest panelist speaking toward Ownership Transition for their Professional Practice Course.
