Genevieve C. Sparks was born in Roderfield, West Virginia, in 1920 and never wondered far from her birthplace. Eventually settling in Berwind West Virginia with her husband Carl, she raised five daughters and two sons. “we live very simple lives,” the poet Sparks said. “My life has been very rich and rewarding with family life and warm friends. I thank God each day for the many blessings He has bestowed upon me and mine.” She passed away in 2003.
