I want to talk about process for a moment. If I have sparks, I can write. Sparks are thoughts, ideas, visions, anything I want them to be. For me, no sparks no new pages. Some say the faucet must be on to write, but I need a spark. Same is true for poetry. I need sparks. I need focused energy. Some would say my sparks are prompts or topics. Irrelevant. At my house, Sparks.
I get joy from writing new pages, revising old pages, new poems, audio recording. I forgot how much I enjoyed making audio recordings when Buck Wild let me know about the gear he uses to record. I get good sound, instead of static, and that is what I was lacking last time.
When I wrote my first novel, I did it literally trapped in an asylum. People think I am joking, no. I wrote two books. Something about the medicine I was on, I had sparks.
Same medicine I take today.
We have a great community college here, which is honestly mostly taxpayer funded, classes are cheap. I learned a lot. I truly cannot express how much impact this had, even if only to encourage me to keep running.
I had it in my head, that running a fiction magazine would be a learning experience. A great benefit. I earned a better understanding of what a slush pile really is. I called it Untied Shoelaces of the Mind, but I have done my best to erase it from the winds of time.
The future for me is mostly audio books. I really have no friends who want a new story, everybody has wandered off. I do know people who want audio stories. People have encouraged me that I am on the right track and should keep going.
More on process. None of my stuff is AI generated. I do use Microsoft Word Grammar checker, Google Docs Grammar checker, and depending on my mood, I might use Grammarly, PerfectIt, or Pro Writing Aid.
My friend S.P. has edited almost everything. I self-edited each book dozens of times. Self-editing and one good editor is not professional enough. Epona Author Solutions has done a round of editing on over half my books. The editors who have helped have been invaluable. I miss something dozens of times, and they come back with, What Is This Bullshit?
Beta readers read almost everything, realistically they have moved on. Some of them want audio.
On a personal level, I am an old, CIS male. I do not feel like I have the space or time to really explain my sexual orientation. It is not important to me. Society values it very highly. I drop hints in other bios. Truth is all about dropping hints in the right places.
Enough for this bio to talk about my experiences as a learning writer. If my website is still around, you can find my kung pao recipe, short stories, and writing tips. I have a bandcamp page, but I cannot promise for how long.
People say I am the Bad Guy. I want to get a Bad Guy hat, but more expensive than you might think, and hats are usually too small for me.
The Bad Guy label typically comes from my political beliefs. A political moderate in a sea of brainwashed people. Maybe I am brainwashed. Possible I am, but if I am, I did it to myself. Strange to me that a person will say, Geoff must side with me on this issue, or we cannot be friends.
That is not a friendship, it is a lordship.
