Hendrika de Vries believes that memories hold the keys to our future.
Her life experiences, from the dark days of Nazi-occupied Amsterdam as a child, through her years as a swimming champion, young wife and mother in Australia, combined with her worldwide travel and being a single mom in America, have infused her work as a therapist, teacher and writer.
She credits a mother who joined the Resistance in World War II and a father who passed on the lore of the world’s myths and fairy-tales, with fostering her gifts of imagination and inner strength.
As a depth-oriented marriage & family therapist for over thirty years she has drawn on memories, dreams, and intuitive imagination to facilitate the healing of trauma, address life transitions and relational issues, and empower women.
Hendrika holds a BA with Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Colorado, an MTS cum laude in theological studies from Virginia Theological Seminary, and an MA in counseling psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara.
A mother and grandmother, she lives with her husband in Santa Barbara.
