Hillary Marotta has been a musician almost all of her life. She began learning to play the piano at age six, followed quickly by the flute. Though she only took several years of piano, she has played flute through all of her school years, college, and beyond in community bands and church settings. She began ringing handbells in sixth grade but took a long hiatus until she heard handbells at Bucknell University. She spent three years as a Rooke Chapel Ringer under Dr. William Payn’s direction and has reprised her role several times since on multiple occasions for varying lengths of time. Hillary has also rung for church groups in Virginia and Pennsylvania as well as the Hershey Handbell Ensemble. She was selected to play in two Distinctly Bronze audition-only events through the Handbell Musicians of America organization. In addition, Hillary has studied conducting under Dr. William Payn’s baton and served as a substitute conductor for the Rooke Chapel Ringers on multiple occasions.
Hillary is also a nonprofit specialist, a Mental Health First Aid Trainer, and a mother of two. She is the author of Head and Heart: How to Run a Smart & Compassionate Nonprofit and consults with several nonprofits in Central Pennsylvania. She has served as a guest speaker and lecturer on nonprofits at her alma mater, Bucknell University. She is also heavily involved in many nonprofit organizations and her church. In her heart of hearts, she is a teacher through her book, her speaking engagements and work with nonprofits, and her desire to one day conduct a college level handbell choir. She enjoys reading, writing, spending time with friends, and traveling. If she could live year-round in a tropical paradise, she would. Hillary lives with her husband, two daughters, an adorable and personable goldendoodle and a less personable cat. You can find Hillary at hillarymarotta.com and on Facebook at Hillary Marotta Author, where she’d love to share more with you.
