Hollan L. McCarthy lives in Washington state with her husband and their very fluffy ginger cat named MoMo. Growing up, Hollan was often alone amid the wilderness of her backyard; consisting of mountains, trails, rivers, and giant trees. This solitude gave her a lot of time to read and think about people. An isolated and quiet childhood paved the way to a pensive and quiet adult. She knew she could write a book: “something just as good as anything out there, but it won’t be Shakespeare or anything, so don't get too excited.”
Hollan gathers college degrees as one might gather fallen leaves with a rake: awkwardly and haphazardly into a large and useless heap. She has gone to school at Bellevue Community College, the University of Montana, Antioch University Seattle, and now is enrolled in the MLIS program at San Jose State University studying the thing that she really loves: books, ways to read books, how to organize books, and how to be a know-it-all smarty pants, but still have friends.
She has been, among other things, a hotel housekeeper, a pizza delivery driver, a barista, a bartender, a server, a court transcriptionist, a graduate research assistant, a beauty store clerk, a preschool teacher, a high school art teacher, a rather bad artist, and an unknown poet.
