Now 85 years old, Howard Ray White, a distinguished Southern historian, has written over a dozen published books. So, let us begin by describing the greatest, most compelling, comprehensive and educational books he has written during 2022 and 2023.

For the past 25 years Howard Ray White has studied and written about American political history in great depth with a particular focus on understanding the political causes of the horrific War Between the States, and the political passions that sustained the fighting and resulted in the political reconstruction of the conquered states.
At the beginning, White's extensive study of history enabled him to write his amazing book series of four volumes, titled: "Bloodstains, An Epic History of the Politics that Produced and Sustained the American Civil War and the Political Reconstruction that Followed." The first volume of the "Bloodstains" series was published in 2002 and the final volume was published in December 2012. The book series is available as either a set of 4 printed books or as one combined e-book. Either way, the reader gets the whole story, unabridged.
White's "The CSA Trilogy" is a happy fictional story of the Confederate States winning their independence, expanding greatly in territory and population and becoming, by 2011, "The Greatest Country on Earth." This is both an alternate history and a historical novel. It is presented in one book, divided into three parts, each reaching a climax. Readers may choose to acquire this alternate history printed as three smaller books. Same story.

Howard Ray White is a retired Professional Engineer (Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee, 1960), born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee as was his wife of 64 years, Judith. Since 1972, they have lived in Charlotte, North Carolina. They have two sons and two grown grandchildren.
Using the knowledge gained in writing the Bloodstains series, White has written and published three meaningful histories. One is a brief book titled "Understanding Abe Lincoln's First Shot Strategy (Inciting Confederates to Fire First at Fort Sumter)". The second is a brief book contains two essays: "Understanding 'Uncle Tom's Cabin'." and "Understanding the 'Battle Hymn of the Republic'." The third book is extensive. It is titled, "How Southern Families Made America".
White has also written books that are not histories.
In one example, he published his grandfather's poems, intermixed with a brief story of the White family, with puzzles not unlike a "who-done-it." The result is the brief book, "Understanding Granddad through His Poetry."
Another example is "Advancing American Reading Achievement during the Great Depression," which provides to today's educators a window into segregated 1939 seventh grade classes in Nashville, Tennessee. The reader learns how White's father-in-law, Dr. L. J. Willis, conducted amazing research on improving reading skills as the core activity of his PhD work at George Peabody School for Teachers. Why did White decide to publish this long-ago research? Because the African American children were reading relatively well in 1939 and educators today need to use those experiences to help today's struggling readers.
White hosts a weekly public access television show in Charlotte, North Carolina, titled "True American History, 1763 to 1885." These are shown locally at 8 pm every Tuesday.
