Hi, I’m Gusty, aka J. Clare. I’m so glad you’ve decided to join me on this journey through the King’s Ransom series. I was just kicking my heels in the “dusty barn” until Amanda returned to the Northern Neck. It’s good to have her back because life has gotten very interesting and I’ve been given a front row seat to tell her story. Before all that, I was a world traveler and cryptologist. It's been a long time since my first first overseas trip to Brussels and then to Athens. I’ve been to Asia and Africa, too. I remember when they sent me to that desert in the Middle East; I would have preferred to have been a camel. I’m not so sure about this Jeb Carter guy. To be honest, he makes me a little jealous for Amanda’s attention, but I do like his daughters, Sierra and Nora. They ride me like proper princesses and give me extra helpings of grain and sweet apples. If you’ve already read Queen of the Bay, you know I wrote a small role for myself appropriately titled Gusty. Like Charlotte, I observe a lot and do a lot of digging, especially in regards to these Ladies of the Realm. I’ve enjoyed employing my cryptology background to this effort, some of it featured on a History Channel special. To really get into the role of writing this series, I even got up on a paddleboard and went on a few explorations. Those chest bumping dolphins are for real! I’m not sure what they thought of me. You’ll be pleased to know I’ve given myself a bigger role in Book Two. There will be a literal wild ride as Jeb and Amanda work together (and independently) to get to the bottom of the Jamestown mystery. BTW, don’t even think about casting a different horse in the major motion picture production of the King’s Ransom. I’m playing myself!
