It was 2007, when J. René Munz, driven by personal and professional experiences and esoteric beliefs, decided to give free rein to the imagination and start writing. Although he spends most of his time serving as a police officer, it was his own occupation that prompted him to pick up his pencil and turn to fiction to publish his first book independently in 2017: Lowie Mortem: Chronicles of a Dead Detective. He has already won awards for best fiction, best English translation and best illustrations. He has also been nominated for the International Latino Books Award. Munz, who was born on January 31, 1974 in Puerto Rico, has been passionate about drawing and the visual arts throughout his life. As a teenager he began to venture into street art or graffiti and to collect comic strips from different American and Mexican publishers. In the early 1990s, while in college, he would make posters and illustrations for other students to cover his college expenses. After graduating, he began working as an emergency medical technician and in 1997 he would go on to work for the Puerto Rican police. He would later join the U.S. Armed Forces and complete his military service in 2010. He now spends his time between the police and the hard work of continuing to create stories for fans of suspense, dark fantasy and horror. He likes to collaborate with other puertorican authors and is currently promoting the work of other creators and encouraging new authors through interviews and tutorials that he shares live on his social networks: @jrenemunz on Instagram and J. Rene Munz on Facebook.
