Jamal is passionate about the church and relationships--as they relate to New Testament community--and enjoys encouraging others toward that end through writing and traveling. "I've considered myself a writer by trade since 2011, but becoming a 'writer' has been an unlikely journey spanning several years. It's a profession I've discovered, but certainly not one that I planned. I've always considered myself more of a reader than a writer. I was raised in a home that treasured books. My father, (who was a devout Muslim & nutritionist), and my mother (being a devout Catholic) had quite a library of books they cherished. Seeing their appetite for reading gave me a high regard for books as I was growing up. Reading didn't become a regular part of my life, however, until I came to faith in Christ as a young adult. In college studying for the ministry, I read voraciously. My appetite for reading dipped a bit during the years I spent as a Pastor in a local church. When my journey eventually led me out of the clerical profession, and out of the institutional church world altogether, I began to read again. I began to read books from authors who had been on a similar journey that I had been on. It was a relief and joy to read words that gave definition and texture to things I had been sensing and feeling for quite some time. Reading the words of others helped awaken and renew my mind to things that were stirring deep in my spirit. Their written words liberated me from paradigms that had been keeping me in bondage. I began my blog (jamaljivanjee.com) in 2011 and have been blogging there on a full-time basis since that time. (I could write an entire book about the adventure that has been). Seeing people liberated from destructive situations and paradigms have helped me see and understand how sharing our life's experiences through words and dialogue can be used as a powerful tool of love to liberate and awaken. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free, and we have been set free to love".
