My job in the oil and gas industry required me to do a lot of traveling, so to brake the monotony of driving I listened to books on CD. I decided that when I retire, I would like to try writing a book. My favorite books were about crimes and mystery's so I decided on those genres and wanted to combine the two, I just needed a theme. When I heard Blake Shelton's version of Ol Red on the radio, my theme and character was set. I had no idea how to start writing a book so I made a list of my characters and short outline of what I wanted in each chapter. After listening and reading books, I knew that keeping the characters in my story to a minimum was one of my main objectives. As I began to write, I pictured my book as a movie and mentally used Robert Deval with his mannerisms in Lonesome Dove as my main character and Tom Selleck as the retired private detective based on the low keyed character Jesse Stone. By using this technique it became much easier for me to write and following my outlines for each chapter. After a couple weeks of research and several rewrites, I got my first mystery novel published in 2021, Love Put Me In - Love Got Me Out.
