James Rauthner grew up in a Christian family, and recognized early that many of the Church's teachings are antithetical to living ethically. His first book, "The Immoral Bible: Bad Advice from the Good Book," was written as a response to those who claim that we wouldn't know how to be moral without the Bible to guide us. He holds a doctoral degree from Johns Hopkins University, as well as degrees from the University of Texas and the University of Rochester, and studied in Germany on a Fulbright scholarship. He currently resides in Switzerland, where he works as both a writer and professional musician. In his free time, he enjoys paragliding, rock climbing, and playing the ancient Chinese board game Go.
