Each of Janet's three books received an EQUUS Film and Arts Festival Winnie Award! At Home on a Horse in the Woods: A Journey into Manifesting Your Ultimate Dream won in the Equine Healing Division in 2000. Braiding Horsehair Bracelets: Your Beginner's Guide won in the How-To Division in 2001. Finally...HORSES! won Most Inspirational in the 2023 Children's Category. In December, 2023, Finally...HORSES! also won 3rd place in Allauthor's Children's Book Cover Contest. During the summer of 2024, it won the first place award in the Purple Dragonfly's Children's Non-Fiction category. * At Home on a Horse in the Woods is a memoir that describes horse-crazy Janet's long, off-and-on journey to horses. Ultimately three horses come to her in unimagined ways. Meet Geronimo, the Appy; Dancer's Streak, the Arab; and Highlander, the TW/Arab crossbreed. Its audience is older teens and adults. * Braiding Horsetail Bracelets tells about Janet's long road to learning to braid horsehair jewelry that finally came true due to the generosity of two experienced braiders. Via step-by-step directions, the craft book illustrates three different bracelet patterns that you can make and wear to celebrate the bond you share with your special horse. Its audience is also older teens and adults. * Finally...HORSES! is Janet's first children's book. It is a version of Janet's memoir for 7 to 11-year-olds. After all, children dream too and also deserve inspiration and support in reaching their dreams. Each page is illustrated. The pictures start in black-and-white and slowly turn into living color as Janet's dream comes true. Janet perceives her first and third books as companions...same story -- the detailed one for adults and the illustrated one for children. She envisions adult and child pairs pairing up to read their books, pausing from time to time to discuss them, thus strengthening their conversational skills and deepening their relationship. The author is a retired science teacher who loves nature and lives in Southern Indiana with her husband, Jim, and their cats and dog. Since 1999 she has ridden three of her four dream horses at a state forest with extensive riding trails. Besides writing, Janet also braids horsehair jewelry to help horse lovers celebrate the special bonds they’ve developed with their equines. Janet loves hearing from her readers about their dreams and bracelet-braiding experiences.
