A native of Pikeville, Kentucky, Jason is a graduate of the University of Kentucky, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in History with departmental honors. He served on active duty as a U.S. Air Force officer for ten years, including a deployment to Iraq. Jason studied Japanese language and history in Toyama, Japan, earned a Master of Science degree from Troy State University, and has been published by the Huffington Post and the Lexington Herald Leader. He also worked for Science Applications International Corporation, Target, and the University of Pikeville. In 2019 Jason ran for Secretary of State in Kentucky, finishing second of four candidates in the statewide primary. An avid runner and fitness enthusiast, he has completed over one hundred races.
