Headed to burnout, Jen was at a crossroads- stay and teach, or get out. With the weight of piles of grading, ever changing demands from both the state and district, increasing number of tests, and the complexity of balancing being a mom and a teacher, the decision seemed easy- get out and get your life back. But, at that pivotal moment, she realized that the pull of being an educator was stronger than the pull to get out. She made a decision to stay and love teaching again. She figured out how to deal with the overwhelm and teach better. This shift has proved to be life-changing- for Jen and her students. As a dynamic teacher, motivational speaker, and author of The Happy Teacher’s Handbook, Jen's superpower is getting teachers to smile again. She brings a refreshing perspective that lifts you up when you want to walk out, reminding you of the real reason you became a teacher. She has this amazing ability to shift perspective from the overwhelm of state mandates to the fire within you that keeps you going. As an educator for 19 years, Jen has enjoyed teaching in the classroom, as a gifted intervention specialist, and more recently as an instructional coach. She has presented to leadership teams, school board members, state and national conferences, parent groups, and in front of the Ohio State Superintendent. Her goal is to share strategies for overcoming teacher burnout with one million teachers across the world, so that they find a reason to stay and make their impact on the world, one class at a time. Happy teachers cultivate happy students! And happy students will become our future leaders.
